Wishlist Title Should Not Be Truncated

Hi,

It is only my personal point of view. The "title" of gridview on the following page should not be truncated.

Re: Wishlist Title Should Not Be Truncated

Not sure what you mean - the title is not truncated when you click on the bookmark.  For e.g. click on http://www.harilo.com/bookmarks/2452

Re: Wishlist Title Should Not Be Truncated

Longer product names are truncated in the gridview (table) on the /bookmark page. This causes problem on knowing what the product actually is.

It would be nice if the title column would be fully displayed instead of having to click on the hyperlink on the adjacent column and go to the next page to know what the product name is.

Re: Wishlist Title Should Not Be Truncated

Re: Wishlist Title Should Not Be Truncated

Okay. Let me start from the scratch.

Example. A product named

"Amazon.com: HP Wireless Keyboard and Mouse - Keyboard - wireless - RF - mouse - USB wireless receiver - English - US: Electronics"

is shown as

"Amazon.com: HP Wireless Key..."

It should be

"Amazon.com: HP Wireless Keyboard and Mouse - Keyboard - wireless - RF - mouse - USB wireless receiver - English - US: Electronics"

It should not be

"Amazon.com: HP Wireless Key..."

Re: Wishlist Title Should Not Be Truncated

i understand that you don't want it truncated.  but send us a screenshot of the design of what it looks like when it is not truncated if you can.  right now it's a simple table design with title, url, and actions on one row.  as soon as you stop truncating it will not all fit on the same line and you need a new design to accomodate it....

Re: Wishlist Title Should Not Be Truncated

Hi,

If you want me to, I can propose a css (modification) to gracefully show the contents when the product name is shown fully.  :)

You would just have to remove the reference to function that truncates product name.

Re: Wishlist Title Should Not Be Truncated

This post was updated on .
Hi,

Please have a look on this image.

http://www.freeimagehosting.net/9c268

Please download the sample from this link
http://www.2shared.com/file/Ejv0Y3w8/harilo.html

-----------------------------------------------------------

Please Note:

1. URL (column is removed and) is inserted to the adjacent column as a hyperlink, eliminating an entire column which would save a lot of space on a small table of 500px width.
2. Padding (8px) is added to cells for clarity from each position (TRBL).
3. Cells are vertically centered for better ergonomics.
4. Command panel is set a fixed width (180px) to avoid it split into two lines.
5. Hover is set (as background color) on each row to give users an idea on where they are.
6. Hover is set (as foreground color) on each cell to give users an idea on where they are.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Site Modification

Please change the table template

FROM THIS

                                Title

                                URL

                                Actions

PleaseTruncateMyTitle({Title}){URL}{Actions}

TO THIS

                                Title

                                Actions

{Title}{URL} + {Actions}

-----------------------------------------------------------

Please add the following CSS

table.striped tbody tr td
{
    padding:8px;
    display:table-cell;
    vertical-align:middle!important;
}

.product-title
{
    vertical-align:middle;
}

.product-command-panel
{
    width:180px;
}

table.striped tbody tr td a:hover
{
    color: #CC3300;
}

table.striped tbody tr:hover
{
    background-color: #FFFFCC;
}

-----------------------------------------------------------

WARNING
Please do not take this adversely.

You MUST implement an HTTP HANDLER which serves your STATIC CONTENTS such as STYLESHEETS and JAVASCRIPTS in such a way that if the request DID NOT COME from the SAME HOST on which the HANDLER RESIDES or from a list of PREDEFINED HOSTS, the request WOULD BE BLOCKED and IP should be LOGGED.

Similarly, while reading your blog, I came to know that you are using RoR and PostgreSQL server, an excellent ORDBMS which supports binary storage. Please have a look on my blog if you find it interesting ...

http://planetearthsolution.com/binodsblog/2011/07/05/save-and-retrieve-image-in-postgresql-server-using-microsoft-net/

If it is possible use an HTTP HANDLER for images because a SECURED DYNAMIC SITE NEVER SERVERS DOCUMENTS directly from the server, whether it is text, image, css, or javascript; STATIC CONTENTS SHOULD BE SERVED BY A HANDLER. Images such as

http://assets0.harilo.com/images/info/landing/step-1.png?1318524931

should be better served via handler for that matter, making it impossible for hacker to know the existence and directory structure of you web server.

Example:
http://assets0.harilo.com/GetImage?name=ShopAnyAmericanWebSite

WHY ?
I could just copy and paste the HTML generated from harilo.com/bookmarks and then use your css, images, and did the job.

Finally, as soon as you have a look on this post, please make a backup copy of this page and delete this reply.

Binod Upadhyaya
